Biography

Dr. Boris Jivkov received his medical training at the Medical Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria, and was awarded a Masters degree in 1990. In 2000, he became a Fellow of the College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in South Africa. Dr. Jivkov completed his residency at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he rotated through inpatient wards and outpatient clinics and developed expertise in managing conditions ranging from uncomplicated pregnancies to severe maternal disorders and abnormalities of fetal development, as well as acute and chronic gynecological disorders.

Before joining Guangzhou United Family Hospital, Dr. Jivkov was involved in clinical research of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, served as Consultant to WHO-Europe, has co-authored guidelines and published research papers and was Honorary Consultant at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the largest maternity facility in Africa. From 2002 until 2015 he was a Specialist in private practice at Netcare Park Lane Hospital and the Linkwood Clinic in Johannesburg, South Africa. Over the last two years he worked as Registrar and Consultant at the NHS in England and Wales.

With over 25 years of clinical experience, besides focusing on maternal medicine, he is passionate about empowering women’s choices in child-birthing options. He is skilled in routine and complex obstetric interventions. He is an accomplished surgeon with advanced skills in minimally-invasive abdominal and vaginal approach procedures. He has special interest in mental health issues associated with pregnancy and menopause.

Dr. Jivkov is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, The General Medical Council of UK and is a member of the South African Medical Association.

Dr. Jivkov speaks English, German, Russian, and Bulgarian.
