Biography

Dr. Jun Liu received his bachelor’s degree in Clinical Medicine from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in 1997, and his Doctor’s degree in neurology from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in 2002. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Kansas University School of Medicine from 2006 to 2008.

Dr. Liu has been extensively engaged in the basic and clinical research of neurological diseases. He is excellent at the diagnosis and treatment of various neurological diseases, especially in the basic and clinical research of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, cerebrovascular disease, and radiation brain injury. He is also very skilled in the treatment of headache, dizziness, various neuromuscular diseases, neuroimmune diseases, peripheral neuropathy, insomnia, anxiety and depression disorders, and a variety of difficult diseases of the nervous system.

In recent years, Dr. Liu has published 74 SCI papers in Nano today, Biomaterials, JBC and other important journals at home and abroad, including more than 50 as first author/corresponding author and 28 that he co-published with others, with the highest impact factor score of 20.722 for a single paper. He edited 3 monographs, and participated in the compilation of 1 monograph in a foreign language, including the first monograph on the injury after radiotherapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in China, and neurology after radiotherapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. He has applied for 2 international invention patents, 1 domestic invention patent, and obtained 2 national computer software copyrights. He presided over 6 projects under the National Natural Science Foundation, more than 10 projects at the provincial and ministerial level, 1 major project of Guangzhou Collaborative Innovation, 1 project under the “Tenth Five-Year Plan” of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and 1 project under the national key research and development program “Early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease”. He served as the head of the China Cognition and Aging Research Unit (COAST Research), and constructed the first AD database in South China.

He won the second prize of Guangdong Medical Science and Technology Award in 2022, and the third prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award in 2012. In 2015, he was invited to serve as chief editor of BioMed Res Int. In 2016, he began to host the annual “Yixian Dementia Summit Forum”, and was named “China Outstanding Young Neurologist” in 2017. In 2018, he was named “Outstanding Young Medical Talent in Guangdong Province”, and was been recognized as   “Lingnan Famous Doctor” and “Yangcheng Good Doctor” many times. In 2021, he began working as Associate Editor of the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease (Impact Factor 4.472), an open access international multidisciplinary journal.

Dr. Liu has also served as a committee member in several leading Chinese medical societies, including the Deputy Director of the Institute of Neuroscience of Guangzhou Medical University, the director of the Department of Neurology, the head of the Cognitive Center, and the Specialist Director of Neurodegeneration and Cognitive Disorders of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. He is also a member of the Cognitive Disorders Professional Committee of the Neurology Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Deputy Chairman of the ADC Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Health Care Association, Chairman of the Cognitive Medicine Branch of the Guangdong Medical Association, Chairman of the Neurology Professional Committee of the Guangdong Primary Medical Association, Chairman of the Alzheimer’s Disease Committee of Guangdong Precision Medicine Application Society, Chairman of the Dementia and Cognitive Disorders Professional Committee of Guangdong Rehabilitation Society, Chairman of the National Natural Foundation, and as a review expert of several key projects.
