Mr. Chen is an American-certified athletic trainer with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. In 2001, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiolosy – Sports Medicine at California State University, Fresno. In 2003, he earned a Master of Arts in Kinesiology – Sports Management from California State University, Long Beach.
From 2001 until 2008, Mr. Chen worked at several colleges within the Los Angeles Community College District, directing and providing acute medical care and long-term rehabilitation for the athletes of the schools’ Athletic Departments. In 2008, Erick joined Cirque du Soleil as an Athletic Therapist, where he helped to open Cirque’s ZAIA show at the Venetian Macau. This was Cirque’s first attempt at a resident show in Asia. He was instrumental in many aspects of the creation of the Performance Medicine Department. His work involved creating emergency rescue and care procedures for the show, providing high-quality rehabilitative services to the artists, and building bridges with local medical providers.
His specialties include athletic injury prevention, injury surveillance / event coverage, emergency care, injury evaluation, and short- / long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
