Dr. Liu graduated from Sun Yat sen Medical University with a clinical doctor’s degree in neurology. He is currently a professor and chief physician of neurology at Sun Yat sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat sen University, and a specially appointed neurologist at Guangzhou United Family Hospital.

Dr. Liu is familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases, multiple diseases and intractable diseases in neurology and psychiatry, especially in the clinical diagnosis and treatment and research of headaches, and is the first neurologist to treat migraine Chinese mainland with the use of the new migraine drug, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonist Erenumab (Aimovig), for migraines.

Dr. Liu participated in and completed the Phase III clinical study of Erenumab (Aimovig) for the treatment of migraine patients in China, led by Professor Yu Shengyuan of the Chinese Headache Society and President of the Neurology Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the Chinese Headache Center of the International Headache Society. He is currently participating in the “Research on Registration of Cluster Headache in China” conducted by Dong Zhao, Director of the International Headache Center of the General Hospital of the People’s Liberation Army of China.

Dr. Liu presided over more than ten projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation, the Ministry of Education Foundation, and the Guangdong Natural Science Foundation. He edited two monographs: Consultation and Treatment of Clinical Encephalopathy (People’s Medical Publishing House, 2012) and Neuroinjury Associated with Radiotherapy of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (Guangdong Science and Technology Publishing House, 2010). He published 42 papers as the first or corresponding author, including 13 SCI papers. He also supervised 8 graduate students. As a tutor, he participated in the training of Chinese neuropsychological sub specialists in the whole process, with more than 300 trainees.

In recent years, he participated in the formulation of many domestic diagnosis and treatment guidelines and consensus on Consensus for Psychosomatic Classification, Diagnosis and Treatment of Somatic Symptoms (Science Press, 2016); Chinese Expert Consensus on Clinical Practice of Post stroke Depression (Chinese Journal of Stroke, 2016, 11 (8): 685-692); Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Diseases of Nervous System with Depression (People’s Medical Publishing House, 2018).

Dr. Liu has served as a member of the Special Committee on Neuropsychology and Emotional Disorders of the Branch of Neurophysicians of the Chinese Medical Association, a deputy leader of the Neuropsychology Group of the Guangdong Neurology Branch, and the vice chairman of the Geriatric Rehabilitation Professional Committee of the Guangdong Geriatric Health Care Association, and other social positions.
