DIEP-Based Autologous Tissue Breast Reconstruction

DIEP flap reconstruction is one of the most technically demanding microsurgical procedures in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. For eligible patients, we evaluate immediate or delayed DIEP reconstruction using the patient’s own lower-abdominal skin and fat tissue to shape the breast, with microvascular anastomosis performed to restore blood supply. The technique preserves the rectus abdominis muscle as much as possible while optimizing breast shape, sensation, abdominal wall function, and long-term quality of life. This procedure requires extensive expertise in breast oncology, perforator flap design, microvascular anastomosis, anesthetic management, and post-operative flap monitoring, making it ideally suited to a multidisciplinary platform.

Synchronized Breast Cancer Treatment and Reconstruction Planning

Breast reconstruction should be considered early in the overall breast cancer treatment plan. The Center performs concurrent assessments of surgical options, breast-conserving feasibility, reconstruction timing following mastectomy, adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy scheduling, and post-operative recovery needs before treatment begins. This helps patients understand the implications of different approaches for tumor control, breast shape, recovery, and quality of life. For patients who have undergone surgery or comprehensive treatment at other hospitals, we also provide consultations for delayed reconstruction, secondary revision, and aesthetic optimization.

Post-operative Functional Rehabilitation and Lymphedema Management

Following breast cancer surgery and axillary treatment, some patients experience upper-limb swelling, heaviness, restricted shoulder movement, scar contracture, pain, or postural compensation. The Center incorporates rehabilitation assessments into post-operative care, with the Breast Surgery, Rehabilitation Therapy, Nursing, and relevant specialty teams jointly determining the appropriate recovery plan. We provide shoulder range-of-motion exercises, upper-limb functional training, scar and pain management, postural correction, and home exercise guidance. For patients who have undergone axillary lymph node dissection, regional lymph node radiotherapy, or who already show signs of lymphedema, we offer additional risk screening, staging evaluations, and long-term management.

Breast Health Screening and Minimally Invasive Vacuum-Assisted Biopsy

The Center also provides screening and evaluation for breast nodules, breast masses, imaging abnormalities, and high-risk populations. For eligible benign breast lesions, we perform minimally invasive vacuum-assisted biopsy/excision to remove the lesion through smaller incisions with less scarring. For patients with indeterminate diagnoses or imaging findings suggestive of higher risk, we coordinate imaging, pathology, and breast surgery evaluations to determine appropriate follow-up, biopsy, or surgical recommendations.

Fat Grafting and Breast Aesthetic Optimization

The Center places great importance on post-treatment body integrity and physical comfort. For local defects following breast-conserving surgery, post-mastectomy reconstruction, secondary revisions after DIEP or other reconstruction procedures, breast asymmetry, contour depressions, and scar-related concerns, we combine autologous fat grafting, local revision, and aesthetic breast design to provide individualized optimization. All these services are delivered with oncological safety as the primary consideration, helping patients improve post-operative shape, symmetry, and quality of life.
